5 Myths about Lip Fillers

I’m sure we all remember the sudden rise in the popularity of Lip fillers after Kylie Jenner debuted her noticeably plumper pout to the world in 2015. Since then, the trend of getting your lips filled hasn’t died down, and has actually become a regular necessity for some people to maintain. However, over the years there have been a number of misconceptions about Lip fillers, leading to people doubting their safety, their longevity, and the overall aesthetic appeal of them.

We’re going to try and dispel some of these inaccuracies by going through 5 of the most common myths about lip filler.

Lip Filler will look unnatural and unattractive

While HA based fillers have been a blessing for those looking to change up their appearance subtly and non-surgically, some people do prefer a more “unnatural look”, which can lead consumers into thinking that that’s what their own results will look like.

The tabloid stories of people trying to look like Kim Kardashian or Jessica Rabbit should be taken with a pinch of salt, and should not be used as a model for what Lip filler would look like if you were to get it.

By going to a licensed professional who knows what they’re talking about, you immediately lower the risk of being put in a position where the filler you end up getting looks unnatural. Doctors, Nurses, and Dentists, through their years of medical training, can guide you to what works with your anatomy, and should never push or force you into having more filler than you want.

You’re too old to get Lip filler

As long as you are over the age of 18, Lip fillers can be accessed by anyone.

HA based filler does more than just plump, the Hyaluronic acid promotes collagen production in the skin, leading to a rejuvenated and refreshed appearance.

This means that you don’t have to want bigger lips in order to consider getting lip fillers, they can aid in filling out lines and wrinkles in the lips, restoring youth back into them.

Lip fillers can’t be reversed

A fear that many people have when considering lip fillers is that once they get them, they’re there for life. This isn’t the case! As with all HA fillers, your body metabolises the Hyaluronic acid, slowly wearing away after between 12-18 months.

This is one of the huge benefits to having filler administered as if you don’t like how it looks on you, you can either wait until your body naturally gets rid of it, or you can ask your practitioner to administer hyaluronidase which will break down and dissolve the existing filler.

Your lips will look smaller once it’s worn off

Some people seem to think that fillers blow up your lips like a balloon, but we’re here to tell you that isn’t the case!

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in your body, and when it starts to wear off, the residue actually works to thicken the outer layer of skin, helping your lips to look smooth and tight, even after the filler has gone.

It doesn’t matter what kind of filler is used

There is a whole range of fillers out there, some better than others, and some formulated to target different things. If the person administering your filler is medically trained and a professional, they
should be using fillers that are FDA approved and are therefore known to be safe for use. However, as the aesthetics industry is largely unregulated in the UK, people can get almost any filler that they want from the web, meaning that they might not know what is actually in them.

We only use premium products like Juvéderm and Restylane to ensure that our patients get the best possible quality.

When considering if lip filler is right for you, remember to not believe everything you may have heard online or from your friends. When administered properly, lip fillers can be a great way to enhance your look, or to restore your lips to appear more youthful.

This doesn’t mean there aren’t things to look out for, make sure you’re going to someone reputable, who can show pictures of their work, and who has some form of medical training. If you’re still in doubt, why not book a consultation and have all of your queries answered by an expert.
