What Is CO2 Laser Resurfacing?

CO2 laser resurfacing is an advanced skin-rejuvenation technology that uses a high-intensity, carbon dioxide beam to treat aged or sun-damaged tissue. This sophisticated laser delivers short pulses of light energy that are specifically absorbed by the water in your skin cells, allowing for the precise removal of damaged surface layers.

The technology triggers your body's natural healing response to generate fresh, healthy collagen. The result is a significant improvement in skin structural integrity, leading to a tighter, smoother, and much clearer complexion that looks naturally younger.

Stimulates Collagen

Naturally Younger Look
Achieves a refreshed, clearer complexion that looks naturally and durably younger

How Does CO2 Fractional Laser Work?

A step-by-step breakdown of what to expect during your treatment

1
Consultation
Dr Tanov checks your skin and plans your CO2 laser resurfacing treatment, performing a full clinical assessment of your skin quality and medical history to create a fully personalised plan.
2
Preparation
We apply a strong numbing cream so you feel comfortable throughout the procedure. Your skin is cleansed and prepped to ensure optimal laser penetration and results.
3
Laser Action
Our advanced Deka Smartxide laser carefully removes old skin cells by sending microscopic beams of light deep into the skin's layers, creating tiny controlled treatment zones while leaving surrounding skin untouched.
4
Cooling & Care
We soothe your skin and apply rich healing creams immediately after the laser treatment to calm the skin, support the healing process, and protect the treated area.
5
Go Home
You leave the clinic to rest and begin your healing process. Your skin will peel and heal over 7 to 14 days. Full, firm results appear in 3 to 6 months as new collagen builds deep down.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will you see the results of the CO2 laser?+

Your skin will peel and heal over 7 to 14 days. You will see fresh, pink skin then. Full, firm results show in 3 to 6 months as new collagen builds deep down.

How long does CO2 laser resurfacing last?+

The results of CO2 laser resurfacing can last 2 to 5 years or up to 10 years. It depends on your skin quality, ageing, and maintenance treatments.

What are the side effects of CO2 laser?+

Mild puffiness and bruising, slight redness, and temporary tenderness or numbness. In rare cases: minor nerve irritation. All side effects are typically temporary and resolve within a few days.

How to take care after the CO2 laser skin resurfacing session?+

Keep your head in a raised position while you sleep. Avoid hot baths, saunas, and heavy exercise for 72 hours. You can use a facial compression strap to reduce inflammation. Attend follow-up appointments to monitor your progress.

Is the CO2 laser safe for dark skin?+

If you have a darker skin tone, we must be very careful. This laser can sometimes cause dark or light spots on deeper skin colours. Dr Tanov will check your skin closely to see if it is a safe choice for you.

What if I have active acne spots right now?+

You must wait until your active acne clears up. Using the laser on active spots can cause an infection. We can help clear your current acne first and then use the laser to fade the scars later.

Can you treat areas other than the face?+

Yes. We can easily treat your neck, chest, and the backs of your hands to fix sun damage. It is also great for delicate areas like the skin around your eyes or smoker's lines around your lips.

Can the laser cause cold sores or small spots?+

Sometimes the healing process can trigger tiny white bumps called milia, or mild acne flares. If you often get cold sores, the laser can also wake up the virus. We will discuss this in your consultation and can give you medicine beforehand to help prevent cold sores.

Can I mix this laser with other treatments?+

Yes. In fact, mixing treatments gives you brilliant results. We often pair the CO2 laser with Morpheus8, Exosomes, or PRP. We also suggest having a HydraFacial before your laser day to prep your skin for optimal results.

Does it fix melasma and dark age spots?+

Yes, it works very well for these issues. As the laser boosts new skin cells and collagen, it greatly fades dark spots, melasma, and sun damage. Your skin tone will look much clearer and more even.
