What Is Surgical Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a precise surgical procedure to remove excess skin, fat, or muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. This restores a youthful, fresh appearance. It also improves vision if heavy upper lids block your sight.

A discreet incision is made within the natural crease of the eyelid. The precise amount of excess skin and fat is carefully removed, and very fine sutures are used to close the area — resulting in a smoother, firmer contour with scars that are virtually invisible.

Removes Excess Skin
Targets heavy upper lids and loose lower skin for a refreshed contour
Reduces Eye Bags
Removes or repositions fat to eliminate bags and puffiness
Hidden Scars
Incisions placed in natural creases, making scars virtually invisible
Improves Vision
Can restore peripheral vision blocked by heavy upper lid skin

Why Choose Upper & Lower Blepharoplasty?

You may choose this eyelid surgery if you experience any of the following concerns

Heavy, Hooded Upper Eyelids

You struggle with loose skin around the eyes that has lost elasticity, making the eye area appear aged and undefined.

Dark Under-Eye Bags

You notice dark under-eye bags that cast shadows and create a puffy appearance that won't respond to skincare.

Constantly Tired or Sad Look

You feel your eyes look constantly tired or sad, communicating fatigue even when you feel fully energetic.

Vision Blocked by Upper Skin

You have upper eyelid skin that blocks your vision, affecting your peripheral sight and daily comfort.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the surgery painful?+

We use a local anaesthetic to numb the area completely. You will not feel pain during the procedure. Your eyes may feel tight or sore for a few days afterwards.

How long is the downtime?+

Most patients need 7 to 14 days to recover. You will experience some swelling and bruises at first. This fades over the first two weeks.

Will I have visible scars?+

No. Dr Tanov places the cuts in the natural creases of your upper eyelids and just below the lash line on the lower lids. The scars heal, becoming virtually invisible.

How long do the results last?+

Surgical blepharoplasty offers long-lasting results. For most patients, the improvements last for many years. Your eyes will continue to age normally.

Am I a good candidate for this surgery?+

If you have heavy upper lids, under-eye bags, or excess skin that blocks your vision, you are likely a great candidate. We will assess your skin during a consultation.

Does this fix dark circles?+

It removes the shadows caused by puffy eye bags. If your dark circles are due to skin tone, we may recommend a different skin treatment.

When can I wear eye makeup again?+

You must wait until your stitches are removed and the skin heals. This usually takes about 10 to 14 days.
